Research and/or Clinical Interests
Dr. Montemayor’s main clinical and research interest is the application of genomics and bioinformatics into the field of immunohematology. During the past three years, she developed an open-source software that translates Next Generation Sequencing into a precise, extended RBC and platelet phenotype. Dr. Montemayor has presented her research at various Canadian and US forums, as well as internationally, and she addressed the transformative power of genomics for the future of the blood industry in 2019 National Blood Foundation (NBF) CORD Summit.
Dr. Montemayor is also interested in promoting safe transfusion practices in developing countries, through organizations like AABB and Health Volunteers Overseas. She is an active AABB member and is currently nominated for a 2020 At-Large Board of Directors position. She previously served as appointed early-career member of the AABB Board of Directors in 2018-2019. She is an elected member of the AABB Cellular Therapy Section Coordinating Committee (CTSCC) and has served as Leader of the AABB Spanish Language Subsection (SLS) since 2017. Through the SLS, Dr. Montemayor promotes networking and information exchange among Spanish-speaking AABB members, as well as the creation of cellular therapy and transfusion medicine educational resources in the Spanish language. For these contributions, Dr. Montemayor will receive a President’s Award at the 2020 AABB Annual Meeting.
