Finding peace by paddling
Wellness Wednesday: Finding peace by paddling
With the nice weather finally here (in most parts of the country, at least), many of us have likely been feeling that familiar summertime itch – when we shed our winter coats at long-last and start counting down the days to our annual holidays.
But as we all know summer vacation is looking a bit different this year. Even with physical distancing restrictions easing slowly across the provinces, our getaway options are still looking limited.
It is still important, however, that employees take a break from juggling work and personal commitments to take vacation days – even if it is just a long weekend here and there. This is critical to help manage the stresses brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and manage our health and well-being.
That’s why Katie O’Brien, Senior Consultant, Wellness, Diversity & Inclusion is back with her son Henry for another edition of Wellness Wednesday, to share some tips around one “staycation” staple that everyone should try at least once this summer – canoeing in the great outdoors.
With the fast pace, digital overload and little downtime that many employees have been facing since the COVID-19 pandemic began, heading into nature to do some paddling could be the perfect way to (momentarily) escape some of the chaos of life.
Don’t forget — an important part of wellness is connectivity and community.
During this difficult time, we encourage you to go on Yammer and connect with your team mates and other staff across the organization, using the hashtag #WellnessWednesday.
Share your own videos, photos or tips about what you’re doing to stay well while working from home — or bravely working on the frontlines – and help inspire and motivate others.
You can also email communications@blood.ca with your ideas for future Wellness Wednesday videos.
