Employees and customers of Orkin Canada all take part in saving lives

Orkin Canada is committed to making a difference for patients both inside and outside of the donor clinic.

Not only do their employees give back as Partners for Life through their corporate Orkin Canada Sleeves Up initiative, but they also donate a portion of proceeds from every mosquito service booked over the summer months to Canadian Blood Services.

Orkin’s interest in wanting to do more to support Canada’s blood supply began in 2020, when they learned how COVID-19 was impacting blood services across North America. In fact, the number of people donating blood products regularly to Canadian Blood Services decreased by 31,000 since the start of the pandemic.

Orkin Canada wanted to do something to help.

“As millions of Canadians, including our employees and their families, rely on blood services to survive we felt it was necessary to do something to help our fellow Canadians,” shared Rob Quinn, President of Orkin Canada.

Together, their Partners for Life team members have donated close to 40 units of blood and counting. But their efforts don’t stop there, they also spread awareness about Canada’s Lifeline among their customers. Orkin Canada even invites their customers and technicians to be part of giving back to help patients through their annual Fight the Bite to Save a Life initiative.

This creative initiative donates a portion of proceeds from every mosquito service Orkin Canada delivers across Canada during the summer months to Canadian Blood Services. A smart way to help ensure blood donations are saved for patients who need them most — not the neighbourhood mosquitos!

“Orkin Canada’s giving is an example of how a Partners for Life team’s impact can be far reaching,” says Margaret Miedema, director of philanthropy and national partnerships with Canadian Blood Services. “By inviting employees and customers to get involved in making a difference, the impact can be felt both by patients in the community and on the blood system nationally.”

Orkin Canada’s financial contributions are helping to amplify the impact of their blood donations by fuelling everything from recruitment of more blood donors to research that will support and strengthen Canada’s blood system.
