Be Bloody Positive’s Partners for Life team is making a difference, one trip at a time
In February of 2022, a group of friends set out to go on an adventure and save lives. Keshia Boudreault and her friends were looking for ways to socialize within the social gathering restrictions at the time. So, they decided to become blood donors. Keshia reached out to Canadian Blood Services and set up a Partners for Life team called Be Bloody Positive.
The group of first-time donors planned their trip from Tignish into Charlottetown, P.E.I. and coordinated a “girls’ day out.” Be Bloody Positive plans to make the trip to the donor centre four times a year to coincide with their eligibility dates. There is a waiting period of 84 days between blood donations for those registered as female.
Be Bloody Positive has jumped into the Partners for Life movement with an incredible amount of enthusiasm and dedication. They now have custom designed face masks with their team’s name, they’ve been featured on Canadian Blood Services radio ads to inspire others, and they’ve shared their experiences on social media. So far, they have made four group donations.
“To make the trip to Charlottetown four times a year to make this happen is not a big ask,” says Keshia. “Most people up west are making those trips anyway. They just need the push to make an appointment and get involved. Most of us in the group have been through traumatic events with family members and cancer so there's no way we're not going to do our part to try to help and our only regret is not doing it sooner.”
