Canadian Blood Services thanks Kenora donors at final collection event today
Canadian Blood Services thanked local blood donors for donating blood in their community for the final time.
(KENORA) - Today marked the end of an era in Kenora, Ont., as Canadian Blood Services thanked local blood donors for donating blood in their community for the final time.
Blood collection plans are regularly reviewed and analyzed, taking into consideration a number of factors including the location of permanent collection centres, as well as locations of testing and production sites. The operational cost of collecting blood in Kenora, as well as its distance to the nearest Canadian Blood Services production site, contributed to the decision to conclude blood collection in the community.
This change will not affect blood supply for local hospital patients.
“On behalf of the hospital patients we support, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to blood donors in Kenora and area for their generous contribution to Canadian patients,” said Tracy Smith, associate director of donor relations, for Canadian Blood Services.
The generous spirit of giving was celebrated today, as blood donors and volunteers were treated to cake, and encouraged to share their memories of donating in Kenora.
While Canadian Blood Services recognizes that some donors may be disappointed with this news, the organization hopes that Kenora residents will remain engaged with them. There are many ways to Give Life to patients in need.
