Financial donors are an important link in Canada’s Lifeline
Financial donations to Canadian Blood Services help fuel recruitment initiatives to attract new biological donors, drive world-class research and innovation, and advance training and education of health-system leaders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Canadian Blood Services fundraise?
Financial gifts help save lives. While Canadian Blood Services receives operational funding from the provincial and territorial ministries of health (except Quebec), charitable donations supplement this funding and help unlock additional impact.
Financial donations help fuel enhanced recruitment of biological donors, world-class research and training of medical leaders. They also provide much-needed flexibility for Canadian Blood Services to respond to emerging priorities to meet evolving needs of the patients across Canada, who we support.
How will my financial donation make a difference?
No matter how you decide to donate financially, your generosity has an impact on those we serve. Financial donations give us valued flexibility to respond to evolving patient needs quickly in an ever-changing environment.
I already donate blood/plasma, why should I consider financial giving too?
At Canadian Blood Services, there are so many ways that people can give to help make a difference for patients. You can donate blood, platelets or plasma, you can volunteer, you can register to be a stem cell or organ donor and you can give financially, if you wish.
Our community of donors is incredible, and it’s not uncommon for supporters to ask “how can I do more to help?” Financial giving is one way for supporters to unlock additional impact for patients.
Does tap-to-give provide a tax receipt?
When making a donation using a tap-to-give machine at a Canadian Blood Services event or donor centre, a tax receipt will not automatically be generated.
If a charitable tax receipt is important in recognition of your generosity, we recommend making a financial donation to Canadian Blood Services here, instead of using the tap-to-give option.
Who can I contact at Canadian Blood Services about financial donations?
The national development team is here to help answer any questions you might have about the tap-to-give option, the impact of financial giving, or any general topics related to philanthropic giving to Canadian Blood Services. They can be reached by email (give@blood.ca) or by phone (613-739-2339).
