Donating blood or plasma for the very first time? Tell us about it!

You could inspire someone else to join the 450 Challenge. Let’s work together to get Canada’s blood pumping!

From now through the end of March, we are on a mission to recruit 450 new donors a day. That means 450 people who have never donated blood or plasma, making their very first appointments. And we’re tracking the progress each day on our 450 Challenge page.

To those who have already joined the 450 Challenge — thank you so much!  We’d love to hear all about it, from what drove you to book, to your experience on donation day. Are you newly eligible to donate blood or plasma? Motivated by someone who received blood? Did you face a fear of needles? Did you love the free snacks? Your story can be the pep talk, warm hug or sweet temptation that moves someone else to act.

Here are three ways to tell us and others about your first donation. Pick one or try them all. You never know who else you’ll inspire to join the 450 Challenge.

          1. Post on social media.

Tell your story your way (yes to singing and dancing!) or just write a few lines and embellish with our social media shareables and the hashtag #450challenge.

Got the GiveBlood app? The Take a Selfie feature in the Menu tab makes it easy to snap a pic with a fun 450 Challenge frame.

          2. Get in touch via the My Story portal.

We’re excited to share stories of new donors on our own channels, too. Just head to our My Story portal to tell us yours.

          3. Go analog.

Prefer the personal touch? Talking to friends, family and colleagues makes a huge difference, too. Tell them about what it was like to donate, or make them part of your story by inviting them to go with you.

When you booked your first appointment, you joined an amazing community. Get to know it a little better by following us on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube (including Shorts) and LinkedIn. Check out our Stories page for inspiring features about recipients, donors, research and more. And explore all ways to give for opportunities to support patients beyond blood and plasma. Together, we are Canada’s Lifeline
