Passing of National Liaison Committee Member John Plater

August 3, 2012 (OTTAWA) - Canadian Blood Services extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our National Liaison Committee member, John Plater who passed away on July 28, 2012. John was a tireless advocate for a safe, secure Canadian blood supply and was dedicated to ensuring a tragedy like Canada’s tainted blood scandal would never be repeated.

John’s was an important voice in the call that launched the Krever inquiry into the tainted blood tragedy and which ultimately lead to the creation of Canadian Blood Services. Over the years he participated in countless initiatives that directly influenced policy and decision-making within the organization, including consensus conferences on risk-based decision making, and most recently as a member of the National Liaison Committee, Canadian Blood Services’ external advisory body reporting directly to the Board of Directors. His commitment and focus was an inspiration to all.

We owe John a debt of gratitude; his legacy and impact on the blood system will be felt for years to come.
