Science North
Manitoba, North Eastern Ontario, and Nunavut
In 2011, Science North joined the Partners for Life program, kicking things off with a What’s Your Type? event at the museum for staff members. Within two short weeks, the organization was giving blood as a team. Today, Science North gives its employees time off to hop on the Life Bus every 56 days to give blood at the Sudbury clinic. To date, the organization has made eight group donations.
To further support Canadian Blood Services, Science North made blood donation part of its Body Worlds Vital exhibition in 2012. As part of the exhibit, the museum hosted four blood typing events, typed 166 visitors, and booked 45 appointments. The exhibit also shared educational information about blood donation and blood’s role in the cardiovascular system.
Science North is dedicated to educating people about the simplicity of saving lives: they have also made a movie for employees and museum visitors about the blood donation process.
