Representing British Columbia and Yukon

Sylvia understands that more mothers of ethnic backgrounds are needed to help build a diverse public cord blood bank in Canada. A labour and delivery nurse, and one of the few prenatal instructors who offer classes for Chinese immigrants in the Greater Vancouver area, Sylvia is passionate about educating expectant Chinese parents and encouraging them to consider umbilical cord donation. She provides information about cord blood banking in her prenatal classes, distributes parent registration kits, and runs free information sessions for expectant Chinese parents through her non-profit organization, the Do Re Mi Happy Mommy Society.

In addition, she connects regularly with between 3,000 to 4,000 mothers-to-be through her online chat group for Chinese parents. Thanks to Sylvia’s hard work, many new parents have donated their babies’ umbilical cords to the cord blood bank.
