It all started with a sharp pain in Vinesha Ramasamy’s left knee. An x-ray revealed a mass. As her oncologist put it, it was “the worst case of high-grade osteosarcoma” he’d ever seen. At 15 years old she was diagnosed with bone cancer.

Health Canada has approved Canadian Blood Services’ request to reduce the blood donation waiting period for men who have sex with men from one year to three months.

One organ and tissue donor can benefit more than 75 people and save up to eight lives. With more than 4,400 people in Canada waiting for a transplant right now and only a fraction of Canadians registered as donors, the need is critical.
