The incredible power of transplant brings athletes to Ottawa for the 10th Canadian Transplant Games
(OTTAWA) – Get ready to compete, connect and celebrate with the Canadian transplant community at the 2024 Canadian Transplant Games. Ottawa prepares to welcome transplant athletes from across the country August 3-9, 2024!
Prepare to be awestruck, moved to tears, and overjoyed with delight as you watch hundreds of transplant recipients of all ages compete to the best of their ability in a range of sports and events. Held every two years – unless a pandemic gets in the way – the Canadian Transplant Games are the premiere athletic celebration of health and sport for transplant recipients from across the country and will take place in Ottawa at Carleton University and other sporting venues around the city.
Whether an elite athlete or completely new to sport, the goal of the Games is to connect the transplant community, compete and celebrate the incredible power of transplant. For many, it is also a chance to prepare for the World Transplant Games. Transplant athletes of any skill level are welcome. For everyone involved, just crossing the finish line is already a victory.
The other goal of the Games is to inspire conversation about the powerful impact of organ donation and encourage Canadians to register their consent as organ donors.
In addition to transplant recipients, participants also include donor families and living donors. The Games also strive to honour their gift of life with special events throughout the week.
“As a kidney recipient myself it is such an incredible honour to be able to bring the Games back to life after a few-years pause due to the pandemic.,” Brenda Brown, President of the Canadian Transplant Association, says. “I know what it’s like to wonder if I could ever be as healthy as I was before I needed a transplant. The strength and resilience of these athletes is just a joy to witness and proves that there is just as much life after transplant as there was before.”
Ottawa come out and show your support and cheer on the athletes! Learn more about the Games at https://www.canadiantransplant.com/schedule. We will be posting a schedule of all the events and activities you can come out to watch, including Track Day, August 8 at Carleton University’s Terry Fox Athletic Facility.
