Agreement reached with union representing blood clinic employees in Prince Edward Island
(CHARLOTTETOWN) – Canadian Blood Services has reached an agreement with the Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees (NSUPE), involving its support employees in Prince Edward Island. These members of NSUPE Local 19 voted on Aug. 22 to ratify a new collective agreement.
The Nova Scotia Union of Public Employees represents employees in the province of Prince Edward Island, including phlebotomists and support workers.
“The agreement demonstrates Canadian Blood Services’ commitment to the collective bargaining process and to the reliability and safety of Canada’s blood system,” said Peter MacDonald, donor relations director for the Atlantic region. “We are happy to announce the employees will return to work for refresher training on Aug. 30 and we are anxious to move forward and continue our good work together.”
As improvements to the Charlottetown clinic are made, it will remain closed. “We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to donors, partners and stakeholders for their patience and ongoing support,” says MacDonald. “We look forward to welcoming our employees and new and existing donors to our exciting new clinic and will announce the opening date as soon as possible.”
