Obtaining Blood Components for Research

Researchers can obtain blood components (whole blood, packed red cells, plasma, buffy coats, specimen tubes, etc.) from our Blood4Research Facility. Any researcher can apply, however, Canadian Blood Services projects have priority over outside organizations. The time for application review and approval may depend on the number of Canadian Blood Services projects currently underway.

How do I order blood products?

Researchers can order blood products after they receive 1) their own institutional REB approval, 2) Canadian Blood Services REB approval, and 3) a Material Transfer Agreement (signed by your organization.) Once these are complete, please download the order form and read the instructions carefully. Researchers must place their orders at least eight (8) weeks in advance.
