Brief biography
Dr. Mindy Goldman is the Medical Director, Donation Policy and Studies at Canadian Blood Services in Ottawa, Ontario. Dr. Goldman is a Clinical Hematologist with a fellowship in Transfusion Medicine. She completed her medical degree at the University of Montreal and did subsequent training in Internal Medicine at McGill University in Montreal and Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Goldman has been active in many facets of transfusion medicine in Canada, including optimization of the donor screening process to ensure donor and recipient safety. She has been with Canadian Blood Services for over 20 years and is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa. In 2023, Dr. Goldman received the Canadian Blood Services CEO Leadership Award of Excellence. Internationally, Mindy has served on the ISBT Board of Directors and several AABB and ISBT working groups, and co-edited several transfusion medicine publications, primarily related to blood donor screening and donor and recipient risk.
Research interests
Dr. Mindy Goldman’s research interests include blood and plasma donor health and safety, deferral policies for donors, including sexual risk assessment, transfusion-transmissible diseases and bacterial contamination of blood components. Dr. Goldman also researchers blood donation, bacterial contamination of blood products, blood donor criteria, donor iron deficiency, and epidemiology of blood donation and transfusion-transmissible diseases.
