Canadian Blood Services awards salary support to qualified medical residents who are accepted into the Areas of Focused Competency (AFC)-Diploma Program in transfusion medicine. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent Canadian residents to be eligible for the Canadian Blood Services transfusion medicine residency fellowship. Please note that yearly application deadline is typically the end of January but is sometimes modified depending on reviewers' schedules.
The transfusion medicine AFC-diploma program is a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited program. For information about the AFC-program please see Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada website and select Transfusion Medicine under “Information by AFC-diploma.”
The transfusion medicine AFC-diploma program is available at the following universities: University of British Columbia, University of Ottawa, University of Toronto, Dalhousie University and McMaster University. To apply for the Canadian Blood Services Transfusion Medicine Residency Fellowship please contact the transfusion medicine AFC program director at one of these participating universities. Applicants must be accepted into one of the accredited programs to be eligible for Canadian Blood Services funding. Program directors apply for funding on behalf of the candidate.
