Research or Clinical Interests
Dr. Berardi is a hematopathologist and clinical investigator with research interests including transfusion medicine, molecular oncology, and gene regulation. At present, he is focused on developing molecular diagnostic assays for transfusion medicine and complex malignant hematology testing.
Dr. Berardi balances a number of clinical, teaching and leadership roles. He is a staff hematopathologist at The Ottawa Hospital and holds an assistant professor appointment in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He holds several medical leadership positions including the section head of the Complex Malignant Hematology Diagnostics service at the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA) and the associate medical director of the Molecular Oncology Diagnostics Laboratory at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Dr. Berardi obtained a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Waterloo, then completed a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Calgary. He is a medical graduate of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury, Ontario, and completed his residency in Hematological Pathology at the University of Ottawa.
Currently, Dr. Berardi is the medical co-director of the Canadian Blood Services National Immunohematology Reference Laboratory. His ongoing professional development includes participation in several medical associations such as AABB, the Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine, and the Canadian Association of Pathologists.
