New Directors join Canadian Blood Services’ Board


December 11, 2014 (CANADA) – Provincial and territorial Ministers of Health elected three new representatives to the Canadian Blood Services Board of Directors. The new directors officially began their four-year terms on Oct.1, 2014.

 

A paediatrician with the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Dr. Jeff Scott joins the board as the Regional Representative for Atlantic Canada. He is also an investigator of health policy translation with the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology and was a former chair of the Council of Chief Medical Officers of Health.  

 

Dr. Kevin W. Glasgow of Toronto was CEO of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario and the Brant County Board of Health. A former physician executive for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, Dr. Glasgow serves on the board as a Consumer Interest Representative.

 

A former senior vice president of Information Services for London Life Insurance Company and chair of the board for the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, Mrs. Kelly Butt brings her expertise in insurance and investments as a General Representative on the board. She lives in London, ON and holds a designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

 

The board of directors is responsible for overall affairs, governance, strategic planning, budget and reporting on organizational performance to corporate members. The chair and directors reflect the varying and evolving skill sets required of the leadership of Canadian Blood Services as well as the diversity, gender and geographic representation of Canada, outside of Quebec. Canadian Blood Services and its board extend sincere thanks to Dr. Chris Carruthers, Mr. Denis Losier and Rabbi Reuven Bulka for their contributions as Medical, Scientific, Technical, Business and Public Health Representative, Atlantic Canada Representative and Consumer Interest Representative respectively since 2010. Their terms as directors ended Oct. 1, 2014.
