HLA Disease Association – HLA-B27, HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-DR, HLA-DQ Pharmacogenomic Testing – HLA-B*57:01

Test description

Autoimmune Association – HLA-B27,  HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-DR, HLA-DQ
Under normal conditions the immune system is able to tolerate cells carrying “self” HLA antigens. However, in some cases specific inherited HLA antigens have been associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases. While not diagnostic in nature, the presence or absence of specific HLA antigens, in conjunction with clinical findings, aid the physician in making a diagnosis.

Pharmacogenomic Testing – HLA-B*57:01
This molecular test for the HLA-B*57:01 allele assists physicians in identifying patients who are at risk of developing a reaction to Abacavir. The drug Abacavir is used as a therapy for treating HIV infection and is linked to an adverse effect which can be severe and potentially life threatening. Abacavir-induced hypersensitivity reaction has been associated with the presence of the HLA-B*57:01 allele.
