Canadian Blood Services welcomes and encourages people who are deaf or have hearing loss to be regular blood donors.

Becoming a donor is easy. Just follow these steps:

Find out if you're eligible to donate

Visit the "Can I Donate?" section of our site to learn about our basic eligibility requirements and factors that might lead to temporary or indefinite deferral from donation. Many variables influence your eligibility to donate, and the final decision rests with donor clinic staff.

Find a location

We operate 36 permanent collection sites and more than 14,000 donor clinics annually. Check our list of clinic locations here and to book an appointment.

Schedule an appointment

Call the Bell Relay Service TTY number at 1-800-268-9242 Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm EST and ask to be connected to our National Contact Centre at 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to schedule an appointment. You can also book your appointment online.

If you’d like an interpreter available for your appointment, let the National Contact Centre know when you call to book or if you book online, please email us at feedback@blood.ca three weeks in advance of your appointment date. We’ll arrange for a qualified member of the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC) to accompany you throughout the donation process at no cost. Because we don’t maintain regular on-site interpretation services, you must book an appointment and request an interpreter to make sure one will be available for you. If you have a preferred American Sign Language interpreter, let us know the name of the interpreter who will be attending with you. Please note that the interpreter must not be a relative of the donor.

Reminders

We’ll contact you with a reminder call through our Bell Relay Service two days before your scheduled appointment. You can also select to be reminded by email.

Cancellations

If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please cancel it formally with our National Contact Centre so the interpreter service can be cancelled and a new donor booked into your timeslot. If your appointment is more than 24 hours away you can also cancel it online.
