1. Our commitment to privacy
2. What personal information do we collect?
Canadian Blood Services may collect personal information from you at several different points on our website:
Applying for jobs or volunteer opportunities
If you choose to register online for volunteer opportunities or to apply for jobs with Canadian Blood Services through our website, we may collect personal information such as your name, contact information and details about your skills and experience. We use this information to process and assess your application and to contact you for further information if opportunities are available. Canadian Blood Services uses a third party applicant tracking system to manage applications and resumes submitted for job postings on our website and the service provider may have access to your application in order to provide recruitment support to Canadian Blood Services.
Creating online accounts
In order to use some of the services provided through our website, such as scheduling a blood donation appointment or joining the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network registry, you must first create an online account. When creating an online account, we may collect personal information such as your name, date of birth, health information, contact information and your donor card number. We use this information to assess your eligibility to donate blood or to register you as a potential stem cell donor, to determine if you have an existing account with us, and to contact you about donation opportunities and other programs at Canadian Blood Services. You will also be asked to provide a username and a password when you create an online account.
Creating an online account is voluntary and Canadian Blood Services offers other options for scheduling appointments or registering for programs through our National Contact Centre at 1 888 2 DONATE (1‑888‑236‑6283). Further information about the collection, use, retention and disclosure of personal information in relation to the programs offered by Canadian Blood Services is available in our Privacy Notices.
Using online forms
Canadian Blood Services provides online forms for a number of purposes which include, but are not limited to: enrolment in programs such as Partners for Life; to request further information about our programs; to update your contact information; or to provide feedback about your donation experience. We may collect personal information such as your name, date of birth, email address and other contact information, and your donor card number. We use your personal information to provide the services or information you have requested, or to contact you with respect to your enrolment in our programs.
Using live chat
Canadian Blood Services offers a live chat tool on our website to provide technical support for online account users, appointment booking, and to answer general questions website visitors may have. Use of the live chat tool is voluntary and the tool is provided by a third party service provider located outside of Canada who retains the chat logs on behalf of Canadian Blood Services.
