Why Do We Collect and Retain Your Personal Information?
We collect and retain your personal information so we may assess your eligibility to donate and to ensure the safety and sufficiency of blood, blood products, stem cells and cord blood. We will review our records to determine if you have ever donated or attempted to donate stem cells and/or cord blood or if you have joined or ever attempted to join the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network as a potential stem cell donor.
Information will be put into an electronic database which servers are located in Ottawa, Ontario. Because your personal information will be held in Ontario, it may be subject to the privacy laws of Ontario, as well as any privacy laws in your own province.
We restrict access to your personal information to Canadian Blood Services’ staff and volunteers who need access to this information in order to perform their jobs. All staff and volunteers sign a pledge of confidentiality to keep personal information confidential.
