Show your support through the Sirens for Life blood donor challenge this January!

On June 27, 2011, Michelle’s enjoyment of a summer evening ride with friends came to an abrupt halt when she lost control of her new motorbike and hit a guardrail in Cochrane. She sustained multiple broken bones in her lower body and the loss of a leg above the knee. Over 36 hours, Michelle needed 28 units of blood (each unit equals one blood donation), made possible by the generosity of local blood donors.

“I can't thank emergency services personnel enough for playing a huge role in saving my life that day. From police officers and firefighters who shut down the highway so STARS could land, to the EMTs who did everything they could to stop the bleeding. I have incredible respect for what they do and I’m forever grateful.”

A proud daughter of a firefighter, Michelle encourages members of Police, Fire, EMS and Public Safety Communications departments to give blood to help other patients in need during the annual Sirens for Life blood donor challenge!

Show support for the teams that save lives in your community by helping to save lives yourself. To find a participating clinic, call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236 6283).
